The LM5064 combines a high performance hot swapcontroller with a PMBusTM compliant SMBus/I2Cinterface to accurately measure, protect and controlthe electrical operating conditions ofsystemsconnected to a backplane power bus. The LM5064voltage,continuouslycurrent,temperature and fault data to the systemmanagement host via the SMBus interface.real-time power,suppliesThe LM5064 control block includes a unique hotswap architecture that provides current and powerlimiting to protect sensitive circuitry during insertion ofboards into a live system backplane, or any other"hot" power source. A fast acting circuit breakerprevents damage in the event of a short circuit on theoutput. The input under-voltage and over-voltagelevels and hysteresis are configurable, as well as theinsertion delay time and fault detection time. Atemperature monitoring block on the LM5064interfaces with a low-cost external diode formonitoring the temperature of the external MOSFETor other thermally sensitive components. The PGDoutput provides a fast indicator when the input and/oroutput voltages are outside their programmed ranges.The LM5064 monitoring circuit computes both thereal-time and average values of subsystem operatingparameters (VIN, IIN, PIN, VOUT) as well as the peakpower. Accurate power averaging is accomplished bythe input voltage andaveraging the product ofcurrent.
